Mythology of the Americas Quiz

Mythology of the Americas Quiz

Discussions on the history of the Americas can often skip over several millennia by heading straight to the Colonial Era. Partially, that is due to the uncertain record-keeping that many original American cultures had. Most folklore and traditions were passed on orally as those native to America had greater things to worry about than transcribing their legacy in a written form.

To that end, the multiple peoples who originally lived in America before the Colonial Era transmitted their unique cultural legends and histories in ways that can be a touch difficult for the modern historian to sort out. Minor discrepancies in oral traditions and those few written traditions muddy which versions of certain legends and historical accounts are truly accurate. Thanks to the constant work by historians, archaeologists, and in many cases, generational storytellers descended from some of these cultures, we finally have a solid understanding of the mythologies surrounding multiple American peoples.

This quiz will examine the beliefs of those people who were native to both American continents and the nearby islands that are also considered part of the Americas. Interesting and perplexing myths fill the Americas, and even if some legends transcended cultures through social osmosis, plenty of unique and interesting facts differentiated the spiritual beliefs of these original American peoples and those post-colonial peoples who founded their own unique mythologies in the Americas.

We will ask you about deities, places of worship, and general mythological beliefs held by many of the most influential cultures to spring up in America. As much as to test, this quiz is meant to inform. So, we hope you come out of it knowing something new.
