The American Civil War Battles Quiz.
The glory and tragedy of the American Civil War are the primary reasons why this conflict has remained such a central part of American history even a century and a half after its end. The war truly pitted neighbor against neighbor and brother against brother. No other war has claimed more American lives.
What’s worse, the tragic lack of medical knowledge available during the Civil War led to even minor injuries resulting in disabilities or death. At the end of the day, the thousands upon thousands of lives lost in the Civil War were lost over very little in practical terms. The war ended the inhuman practice of slavery. That is the most important contribution the conflict made to American society.
Beyond that major achievement, the war really only brought destruction to America and its people. We remember this conflict in the hopes that such tragedies can be avoided in the future. Central to the Civil War’s brutal nature were the individual battles that made up the whole of the conflict. Oftentimes, the battles of the American Civil War were brutal but short. They saw massive numbers of casualties across the entire nation.
