American History: The 1980s Quiz
Culture in the West experienced ferocious shifts during the 60s and 70s. Youthful rebellion and unprecedented political scandals continuously made people less trusting of their leaders and the institutions that they helmed. Following that period of revolution, America during the 1980s was an odd blend of radical changes and a general sense that a new baseline needed to be established and preserved at all costs.
Politically, this resulted in the neoconservative movement. As people continuously grew fed up with the ineffectiveness of previous more liberal administrations, a new American right was voted into political power with unexpected fervor given how unique and outrageous so much of 80s pop culture generally was.
Hostile powers abroad slowly fell to entropy as corruption and social pressure began to erode one of the world’s greatest evil empires of the time. Despite that gradual collapse, American leaders stressed the need for a military budget that massively inflated the country’s deficit and ushered in a new age of heavy spending while cutting most other programs. Significant historical events filled the 1980s. To this day, American politics are still heavily rooted in the accomplishments and missteps of those who led America during this wild decade. But history doesn’t solely belong to world leaders. The average Joe also had a say in making everyday-history.
