American Literature Quiz

American Literature Quiz

Art reflects the values of a society in one way or another. Even when art questions or outright criticizes the ways of the world, it still reveals something about the nature of the time and place in which it was made. This is part of the reason why art is such a critical part of cultural studies.

People rarely take the time to go about surveying their neighbors to chart down exactly what their hopes and fears are. But art gives us insight into such matters that go beyond the laws or political letters that also give us a glimpse into the workings of the past.

Even fictional literature carries this importance. One might think that made up stories can’t tell us much about the world by its very nature of being a fabrication. However, the attitudes and themes that shine through in fiction serve as weathervanes for society as a whole.

In America, a number of people have risen to prominence because of the stories that they wrote. Fictional or nonfictional, literary works have helped shape the very identity of the United States as a country.

In this quiz, we will test your knowledge of the stories that helped America become a powerhouse in the world of art. These can be short stories, full novels, play scripts, or nonfiction tales.

Poetry will be excluded for now because it will be covered by a separate quiz in the future.

As much as to test, this quiz is meant to inform. So, we hope you come out of it knowing something new.
