The American Progressive Era Quiz
The days of the late 19th Century brought no shortage of hardship to the American people. Unchecked business practices were strangling the free market while also flooding society with stock of less and less quality items. People were suffering in poverty while a new breed of elite oligarchs ascended to unprecedented heights of wealth.
All of this turmoil inspired the next generation of leaders to finally put a stop to the grim practices that began that downfall in the first place. The result was marked and quick. Economic recovery brought a new sense of hope to the people. They were granted opportunities to lift themselves out of the dire lack that had simply become the norm.
In the process, they began to produce wildly new and inventive businesses, revolutionary works of art, and a decent amount of socially progressive programs that would try to prevent such nonsense from ever reoccurring. Still, this era was not without its pitfalls. New tragedies and scandals welcomed themselves into American politics while these new leaders held the door open. Abundance began to breed cynicism. Over time, it caused the people to generally forget the mistakes of the past that caused the economic downturn that they had just recovered from.
