Franklin Pierce Quiz

The Franklin Pierce Quiz

History favors the bold. Sometimes, however, it provides us the perspective to cast judgment upon those who might have been hailed in their own time. With the issue of slavery dividing the nation, Americans needed someone to help unify them in order to possibly deflect the brewing civil war.

Franklin Pierce was not that man. He was a fellow who had strong feelings about the issue of slavery. Unfortunately, those strong feelings were in favor of the institution of slavery. Pierce used every trick in the book to try and halt efforts at abolition. To him, the cause of abolitionism was the poison that was killing American unity.

Pierce polarized America’s people even further. His presidency seemed to move backwards away from the bits of social progress that may have been achieved in the country prior. As a result, a large swath of the American people hated Pierce and everything he stood for.

On the other side of the aisle were those who believed Pierce was the only man in politics willing to defend their regressive worldviews. Pierce was a failure of a President. Beyond the issue of slavery, he proved himself to be impotent at addressing the issues of his nation. His legacy remains quite tarnished among modern historians.

As much as to test, this quiz is meant to inform. We will ask you questions about Pierce, his deeds, and the world which shaped him. How much do you know about this famous statesman? Take our Franklin Pierce Quiz to find out.
