History of the Samurai Quiz
Tales of wisdom and courage surround the noble warriors of feudal Japan. A similar phenomenon has happened in the West surrounding knights of old. Both groups of warriors were aristocratic, and each had their own similar code of ethics meant to keep them from going mad with power.
Samurai broke their rules about as often as knights did. After all, if history is nothing else, it is one continuous record of how power will, more often than not, corrupt people. It is hard to pinpoint exactly when the samurai as a noble class began. Many Japanese rulers had stables of warriors whom they patronized.
Yet, modern scholars place the beginning of the true samurai class early in the Second Millennium A.D. This quiz will examine the history that surrounds these fighters of old. Everything from the mythology surrounding them to objective facts about their exploits will appear in this quiz, but we will primarily focus on concrete verifiable truths.
Some samurai and their weapons have entered the cultural consciousness like how many mythological Greek heroes have. So, perhaps you might recognize some of the names here even if you think you are completely unfamiliar with this time period.
