James Monroe Quiz

The James Monroe Quiz.

Exiting a period of war, the United States was barely getting its footing in the global landscape. Thanks to decades of isolationism in order to gather strength, the U.S.A. was almost a non-actor on the global stage. Thanks to President James Monroe, the role that the U.S.A. would play in global politics began to take shape into its eventual final form.

For years Monroe had attempted to strike a balance between meeting the short-term needs of the citizenry to thrive and the grander ambitions of forming a lasting and prosperous nation. Finally, the U.S. had little to fear from the major kingdoms of Europe. Because there was so much turmoil across the Atlantic, Monroe’s America was able to focus much on the fulfillment of its various systems into more optimized states. Not everything was peaches and cream for the Monroe administration, however. Due to some unexpected threats both foreign and domestic, the American people found themselves involved in conflicts they could not have predicted.

The presidency of Monroe also marked a more symbolic departure from the norms of American politics for decades prior. With Monroe, the reign of the Founding Fathers was coming to its close. Without those influential titans at the helm, it was up to a new generation of bold thinkers and champions to guide the path for the new democracy. The United States of America was growing in both size and influence. For Monroe, the most important duty he could perform was make sure to guide that growth into a productive society that would allow its people to prosper long after he left office.
