John Williams Quiz

The John Williams Quiz.

The art of cinema has become one of the defining elements of expression in contemporary times. Since the Hollywood machine has become an absolute juggernaut of an industry, movies are entwined with pop culture as a singular thread that defines the pattern it is a part of. Multiple movies are so prolific that they have helped to define the cultural landscape of the ages they released in. What has helped cinema stand out when compared to other art forms is how it incorporates elements from multiple different aesthetic fields to produce a single controlled artistic statement.

There is, of course the visual element of the cinematography of a movie. Beyond that, there is the written element of the script and dialogue. But rounding the entire package out is the auditory element of a film. Even in the age of silent movies there were scores released to compliment the visuals of the film. Once synchronized audio came out, scores and dialogue could be perfectly packaged as a part of the movie. The score became a critical element to evoking emotion to filmmakers. Few other writers of cinema scores can claim to stand on the same level as John Williams.

Even if his name is not immediately familiar, I’m certain you know at least one of his legendary movie tunes. He was the king of the blockbuster theme. With a musical background and a flair for the dramatic, Williams was able to condense entire movie experiences into breath-taking themes. He became a pop culture icon for a job that was not particularly appreciated before his time.

How much do you know about this legendary composer? Take our John Williams Quiz to find out.
