Key Persons & Events of the American Civil War Quiz

Modern Americans might take for granted how ideologically divided the original states were. That’s acutely ironic since they claimed to be the UNITED States of America, but rifts of division plagued the U.S. from the outset. Different cultural values were held by northerners and southerners.

When the time came to declare independence, both North and South happened to agree that they needed to form a new country. The specifics, however, caused infighting. Then, a decade later when the first governmental systems were hashed out, the North and South fought all over again. Key among the dividing factors between these two regions was the slavery issue, with a great deal of Northerners refusing to let their nation permit the inhuman practice.

Wealthy Southerners made their fortunes on the backs of slaves. So, they naturally blinded themselves to the inherent hypocrisy in declaring all men equal while keeping some men in chains simply due to the color of their skin. The Civil War was the period in time when this disagreement came to full blows. After anti-slavery candidate Abraham Lincoln won the White House, Southern American states decided to make their own government that would allow the practice to continue.

In this quiz, we will examine the American Civil War explicitly from the lens of the people and deeds that determined its outcome. As much as to test, this quiz is meant to inform. So, we hope you come out of it knowing something new.
