Once the dust of those wars had settled, Most of the world was split in two. Countries generally fell into two camps of thought as they rebuilt from the fires of war. Some countries embraced western republicanism that had a focus on mixed market but generally capitalist economic structures. Other countries came to follow the radical new eastern economic style of communism.

Wherever divisions exist, suspicion is sure to follow. The quick and often violent spread of communism became a subject of serious concern for those nations who did not wish to fall under its sway. It was not uncommon for communist countries during the Cold War to consume or conquer their neighbors in an effort to expand their influence. It was in this setting that the Cold War developed.
