What followed, however, was proof that he was not entirely able to control the forces which he was trying to wield in this period.

Ultimately, he was swallowed up by an iron tide he tried to rule. Before this, Robespierre was an accomplished statesman and orator. It wasn’t for no reason that the man was able to lead a nation. By studying Robespierre, we gain insight into the nature of rule and power. What’s more, he provides great insight into the machinations of the French Revolution in its entirety.
