The French Republics Quiz
Democracies are not born overnight. Well, they aren’t born at all if we want to get technical. The point is that many individuals across many years have to put give a concerted effort in order to craft a democratic government. Though fragile in theory, modern democracies have withstood the tests of centuries.
France has stood as one of the world’s most famous democratic nations because of how early and dramatic its revolution was. The peoples of France and America were some of the first in modern history to object to monarchial systems of government and the hierarchy that they invariably produce without the consent of the governed. To free themselves, both nations launched open rebellions. France unfortunately did not build a single lasting republic after the fall of its monarch.
At multiple different points in history, France’s republican government was disbanded either because of despotic influences or else because the people demanded swift and radical change. That is why France is considered to have borne multiple republics throughout the ages.
In this quiz, we will study contemporary French political history through the lens of its multiple republican governments. Some questions will also address some of the events that happened between those republics in order to fill in the gaps of this wide-reaching history.
As much as to test, this quiz is meant to inform. So, we hope you come out of it knowing something new.
