The Life & Deeds of James Madison Quiz

Revolutionaries come in all shapes and sizes. It might be tempting to think of those who battled on the front lines as the primary heroes of a revolution. However, it takes all kinds to bring positive change to fruition. We can see all throughout history what happens when a revolution is only carried out by militants. A government will be created that serves the needs of generals and seeks to expand its borders through conquest.

Similarly, many revolutions run only by academics with no help from the common people will end up as detached oligarchies. Many other democratic revolutions have ended in complete disaster. So, what was it about the American Revolution that brought about its long-lasting success?

One reason is the presence of men like James Madison. As far as academics go, Madison was surprisingly in tune with the needs of the common folk. He was one of many founding fathers who truly believed in the cause of freedom, but not enough to oppose the institution of slavery. Such a contradiction is explained by his innate biases as a product of Southern prosperity built off the backs of slaves. We should not ignore this contradiction, but take it into account as we view Madison overall. He was a man who had brilliant ideas about how to build a representative democracy.

Even so, he ignored the lack of freedom a block down the road. This quiz will ask you all manner of questions about James Madison including his accomplishments and facts about his general life.
