The Persian Empire Quiz
The sands of time are immutable. As discussed in Percy Bysshe Shelley’s famous poem “Ozymandias,” even the mightiest deeds of mankind will eventually lie forgotten. History can be said to unearth those ancient deeds in the name of discovering just what lies in mankind’s past.
It can be sobering, discussing the centuries-long history of a mighty civilization only to realize that all there is to remember it by are dusty old records and dingy artifacts. That is what we shall be doing together in this quiz. Join us in a look back at a nation whose influence was once great enough that it felled entire religions and pre-historic civilizations.
The Persian Empire was built like most early dynasties, around the exploits of a powerful leader. Cults of personality can only take a nation so far. In the case of Persia, the empire somehow managed to keep growing even after its central ruler passed away. Gradual decline was still inevitable. No amount of military conquest or spiritual reform saved Persia from becoming lost in the sands it was originally built upon.
Yet, the empire was never forgotten. Legends of the civilization entered the cultural D.N.A. of the region to the point that all manner of empires arose claiming to be the second coming of Persia.
This quiz will discuss the original Persian Empire which inspired all others that came after it. As much as to test, this quiz is meant to inform. So, we hope you come out of it knowing something new.
