Trivia Question: What species were the first animals to reach outer space?
Answer: Fruit flies
These flies were stowed aboard rockets that American scientists fired into space. The intention in sending such creatures up to the stars was to gather data on space travel’s effect on living organisms. Later examples of animals being sent into space include chimps and dogs.
